Pain-free local anesthesia at Gainesville Smiles Dental Care.

At Gainesville Smiles Dental Care, we understand that many patients feel anxious about going to the dentist. We strive to make every procedure safe, comfortable, and pain-free so that you can get the care you need. Local anesthesia helps us numb areas of your mouth so that we can treat your teeth and gums while causing you as little discomfort as possible.

Types of numbing injections

Our dentists utilize two types of numbing injections. Both methods involve injecting a numbing anesthesia, such as lidocaine, into areas of your mouth. The first type is a block injection that numbs an entire area of your mouth, for example one side of your lower jaw. The second type is an infiltration injection, which is for smaller, more direct areas, such as a specific tooth.

To start these numbing injections, your dentist will dry the targeted area with air or cotton. A numbing gel may also be applied before the local anesthesia is injected to numb the targeted area in just a minute or two. You remain awake but feel reduced sensation in the area and no pain during short outpatient procedures, like cavity fillings. For more involved procedures, however, heavier forms of sedation may be required.

Worry-free dentistry

At Gainesville Smiles Dental Care, we make every procedure easy and painless because we know how important comfortable dental care is for you and your family. Local anesthesia allows you to comfortably get the care you need. The only side affects you may feel are a few hours of numbness and tingling, but this varies for each person.
